We had an absolutely incredible year in 2015 and once again completely surpassed our previous year (2014) cleanup numbers! In 2015 Clean Bread and Cheese Creek Community Cleanups has worked with 1,468 volunteers at 15 cleanup locations and removed over 3,196 Bags of trash (40.79 tons), recycle over 2.60 tons of scrap metal from our stream, 191 tires, 59 pieces of furniture, 54 shopping carts, 27 bicycles, 24 broken trash cans, 19 cell phones and more costing over $14,000 dollars. Without any funding at all we rely on our fundraisers like this one to pay for all the cleanups in our community. As an all-volunteer organization every penny we raised goes directly back into the community. Thank you for your support, we truly couldn’t do it without you! Let’s break this record again in 2016 together!
On Sunday (11/29/15) Clean Bread and Cheese Creek placed wreaths at several of Dundalk’s too often over looked if not forgotten monuments to those who have fallen both defending and building our Nation. On Thanksgiving weekend we could think of nothing more important than honoring and appreciating those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so we could enjoy or freedom and our way of life. While each location we took time to clean up the areas surrounding each monument as well (7 Bags of trash in total). We placed a quote from President Harry Truman on each wreath as well: “Our debt to the heroic mean and valiant women in the service to our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices”. Wreaths were placed at the Veteran’s Park Memorials, Bethlehem Steel Workers Memorial, Battle Acre Monument, The Methodist Meeting House Monument, North Point State Battlefield, The VFW Memorial, and the Aquila Randall Monument. It is both our honor and our privilege to pay homage to these men and women.
Despite a very rainy day on Saturday, November 7, 2015 over 100 volunteers arrived at the historic Bear Creek working tirelessly to remove over 217 bags of trash and 1,000 pounds of metal! 14 shopping carts, 12 tires, 6 destroyed plastic trash cans, 5 plastic chairs, 4 bicycles, 2 room sized pieces of carpet, several pieces of chain-link fence, a lawnmower, a steam cleaner, a bead frame with headboard, an IBM Computer and a 5 gallon water cooler filled with tobacco and much more was removed as well! Our cleanup was ran in association with Better Waterways as well as American Rivers. We want to send a special shout out to Baltimore County Highways who had their roll-off truck break down the morning of our cleanup and they quickly made accommodations by supplying dump truck and backhoe, making several trips back and forth to their work yard to dump it throughout out the day. We would like to thank all our incredible volunteer form the community, and Towson University who braved the rain and helped us cleanup our community! We would also like to thank Entenmann’s Bakery Outlet for donating donuts for all out hungry volunteers. Thank you everyone for all your hard work and for helping us strive for a cleaner, greener, healthier community and environment!
Despite a very rainy day over 90 volunteers braved the weather to remove over 191 bags of trash and 800 pounds of metal from the historic Bread and Cheese Creek! 4 bicycles, a leather sofa, leather chair, a sink, a chain link fence, a charcoal grill, two shopping cards, an entertainment stand, two pallets, three tires, a gas pump handle labeled “Leaded Fuel Only” were also removed! The majority of the trash consisted of fast food trash, plastic bottles and cans. Our cleanup was ran in association with ran in association with National Day to Serve and the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup as well as American Rivers. We would like to thank all our incredible volunteer form the community, Towson University, the Cub Scouts and the U. S. Air-force and the U.S. Navy who helped to make out cleanup so successful! We would also like to thank Entenmann’s Bakery Outlet for donating donuts for all out hungry volunteers as well as Gotugo for donating a portable restroom and Baltimore County Highways for providing a dumpster at the event! Thank you everyone for all your hard work and for helping us strive for a cleaner, greener, healthier community and environment!
Despite an absolutely horrible weather forecast 24 volunteers from Clean Bread and Cheese Creek worked with Friends of the Hard Yacht Café to remove over 93 bags of trash from the Peninsula Expressway! The litter removed included three chairs, two propane tanks, a mattress, a suitcase, a baby carriage, a transmission, a shopping cart, lots of construction debris and much more! This trash was removed before it could was into Bear Creek and the Chesapeake Bay! We cannot express how grateful we are for everyone who came out to brave the elements while helping us work toward a cleaner, greener, healthier community and Environment! We would like to extend a special thank you to all the students form St. Timothy’s School who, helped us out as well!
Over 24 volunteers removed over 85 bags of trash, 5 tires, 4 shopping carts, 4 pallets, 2 chairs, 2 bicycles, 2 sets of car keys, a purse full of credit cards and more from Bread & Butter Creek! We truly wish to thank all the wonderful volunteers from BGE, Amiga Insurance and the community who came out to asset us on this beautiful day! We also wish to thank Entenmann’s Discount Bakery for providing do nuts for all our volunteers and Baltimore County To our knowledge this stream had never been cleaned previously and the amount of trash we removed is a testament to how badly it was needed! But these incredible people did not stop there! They continued but helping us cleanup the field behind the shopping and the shopping center itself! We also worked with them to unclog several storm drains and help remove and return several large drain pipes left behind by a contractor! All and all it was an incredible day and we can’t thank all our fantastic volunteers for helping us accomplish so much in the community today!

Help us raise money to finance our cleanups in the Dundalk area by purchasing a homemade treat for your Dinner table or Easter celebration. If left the trash it not only choking out all the natural vegetation it is also washing into the stream which flows into Bear Creek and the Chesapeake Bay. This cleanup will be run in conjunction with the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay’s Annual Project Clean Stream Event and American Rivers.

Please help us clean up this beautiful little stream that flows through many residential neighborhoods and into Bear Creek. NOTE: Registration will open at 7 am and run until 9 am at the Boulevard Diner across the street (1660 Merritt Boulevard, Dundalk) where breakfast will generously be provide for volunteers by the Boulevard Diner! Late registrants can sign up at the tent onsite next to the stream.

Despite the chilly morning, on Saturday over 47 volunteers arrived to help cleanup Bear Creek Stream. Together volunteers helped us fill a 40 yard dumpster 1/2 of the way full with trash and debris as well cutting out three large log jams, removing 17 tires, 14 shopping carts, 6 bicycles, 2 tents, a moped, a mattress, a kerosene heater, a kiddie pool and much more! Thank you so much for caring about our environment and the community! We would like to specially thank Delegate Elect Bob Long, Senator Elect Johnny Sailing, the Towson University Students, University of Maryland Students, The U.S. Navy, St. Timothy’s School Students and the community for all the wonderful volunteers they supplied to make our cleanup such an wonderful success.
On 29 volunteers from Clean Bread and Cheese Creek and Friends of the Hard Yacht Café arrived to remove 49 trash bags of garbage along with 8 cans of paint, 5 tires, 4 five gallon buckets, 2 passenger seats from a Honda minivan, 2 coffee tables, 2 trash cans, 2 windows, 2 TV’s, a shop vac, and a couch form the Peninsula Expressway! We also were very happy to have several volunteers from the Boy Scouts and the U.S. Navy. Thank you everyone for doing such an incredible job and helping us pick up the trash before it flows into Bear Creek.
142 volunteers removed enough trash to completely fill a 40 dumpster which included 290 trash bags of litter from Bread and Cheese Creek (from the Berkshire Community to North Point Boulevard) and North Point Road. These photos show them hard at work on this day! 10 tires, 6 shopping carts, 4 cans of paint, 3 rugs, 2 TV’s, a mattress and box spring, a reclining couch, a 55 gallon drum, and a toilet were all items that were removed from this historic stream. Additionally 1 ton of metal was pulled from the creek and will be recycled with the money going toward helping to pay for our next cleanup. We would like to thank Baltimore County Highways for supplying us with an dumpster and a very helpful crew!; Baltimore County DEPS for helping us with a full day of log jam cleaning help the day before the cleanup to make the stream flow freely again!; Entenmann’s Baker Outlet for donating donuts; Re/Max Realty for donating hotdogs and a hotdog cart for the day; Lafarge for donating pulled pork, potato chips and soda; and Gotugo for donating a portable restroom for the event!
We would also like to thank the following groups who showed up in large number to help for the day: The Boy Scouts, The Girl Scout Brownies, the U.S. Navy, Dundalk High School, Saint Timothy’s School for Girls, Towson University Students, Johns Hopkins University Students and the Forestry Association! Thank you all for helping to make this cleanup an incredible success!
September 6, 2014.
Despite the very warm temperatures on over 60 volunteers today helped us fill a 40 yard dumpster 3/4 of the way full with trash as well removing 17 shopping carts, 8 tires, five chairs, a wooden headboard, a recliner, a washing machine and much more! Thank you so much for caring about our community and the environment! We would like to send out a special thank you to the Canton Kayak Club, the United States Navy, the Boy Scouts and the community for all their help making this cleanup such a wonderful success!
June 22, 2014- Merriot Point Park.
Clean Bread and Cheese Creek and 44 volunteers from the community and the YMCA arrived to help cleanup up Merritt Point Park. While the park itself was pretty clean we removed 48 bag of trash from the woods and shoreline surrounding the park. Plastic and metal bottle caps, straws, candy wrappers, balloon pieces and plastic utensils we the items most recovered along with four tires and a shopping cart. We would like to send a special thank you to the couple who brought their aluminum boat and netted tons of plastic bottles from the shoreline. Despite this cleaning being scheduled for a weekday we are very thankful for the turnout we had and how much trash we removed and we loved working with the teens from the YMCA. Thank you everyone for the incredible job cleaning up another one of communities beautiful parks!
June 7, 2014- Dundalk’s War of 1812 Monuments.
36 volunteers cleaned up 34 bags of trash, removed poison ivy vines, weeds and brush from three of Dundalk’s War of 1812 monuments! We also trimmed back foliage allowing the Methodist Meeting House Monument to be visible from North Point Road. We would also like to thank Poor Boys Garden Center for donating five bags of much which we spread around the base of the Methodist Meeting House Monument, placed in the flower box built into the North Point Battlefield State park sign and used in the garden corner of the Battle Acre Park Monument.
We would like to send a special thank you to the volunteers who assisted form the U. S. Navy, Team Todd Crandall and Team Bob Long and of course our incredible and intrepid clean Bread and Cheese Creek Volunteers! Thank you everyone for all your hard work as we preserve these important historic structures and shoe the proper respect to those who gave their lives defending our country at the Battle of North Point! And we seem to have finished just in the nick of time too because as we were packing up a tour bus came with people arriving to visit all three monument!
May 23, 2014- Lynch Cove Run.
Twenty eight volunteers joined Clean Bread and Cheese Creek to give up the beginning of their Memorial Day weekend and helped us remove 87 bags of trash from Lynch Cove Run! This included several larger items that could not fit in bags including two bicycles, a shopping cart, a manual typewriters, an unopened drug testing kit, a change purse with Drivers License and credit cards (all expired 2 years ago)and an unopened bag of Play Sand from Hechinger’s!
May 17, 2014- National Kids to the Parks Day.
In celebration of national Kids to Parks Day 57 volunteers arrived to help and cleanup Stansbury Park and Pond on this beautiful day! Together we removed 81 bags of trash including some wooden building material, six broken fishing rods, two 55 gallon drums (one we put back into service as one of the parks trash cans) a shopping cart, a carpet, a suitcase, a metal chair, a wooden pallet, a bicycle, a razor scooter, and a huge refrigerator sized chunk of Styrofoam!
May 10, 2014- Bear Creek and Charlesmont Park.
Despite an absolutely dismal weather prediction 85 volunteers showed up to remove a huge amount of trash from Bear Creek and Charlesmont Park! Together we filled a 40 yard dumpster to capacity including 12 shopping carts, 6 couches, 4 bicycles, 6 tires, 2 vacuum cleaners, 2 mattresses, 2 wooden chairs, one wing-back chair one box spring, one entertainment system, and electric Barbie Guitar and much more! Thank you volunteers you rock! – Thank you!
April 22, 2015- Peninsula Expressway.
Our first cleanup of the season at the Peninsula Expressway was a huge success! Together over twenty volunteers removed 9 TVs, 10 tires, a mattress, 7 trash cans, 2 door panels, a fishing rod, a vacuum cleaner, 2 computer monitors, a rug, a fire safe, misc. building materials and 60 bags! This section of the road is not only critical to keep clean for two reasons; not only will anything not removed from the road will be washed in to the Bear Creek and the Chesapeake Bay, additionally the side of the road not bordering Bear Creek has as Chesapeake Bay Critical area Easement on it.
April 22, 2014- Chesapeake Bay.

April 6, 2013 – Willow Road Section of Bread and Cheese Creek.
On April 6, 2013 our incredible Clean Bread and Cheese Creek volunteers cleaned from Merritt Boulevard to North Point Boulevard and included North Point Road! Over 170 volunteers arrived at Bread and Cheese Creek to clean the Willow Road Section of the stream, but they quickly met and exceeded this goal and cleaned up the section of North Point Road between North Point Plaza (Wal-Mart’s Shopping Center) and German Hill Road. As if this wasn’t incredible enough the continued cleaning in the stream until they reached North Point Boulevard! However, this still was not the end volunteers moved in the opposite direction cleaning up to Merritt Boulevard including the trash choked shore next to Merritt Manor shopping center! You can see through the photos the huge difference they have made! This totals over 3 miles of stream and a road that are now completely trash free.
Even when our Bread and Cheese Creek Truck broke down in the morning our volunteers stepped up again allowing us to use their own! We have said it before and we will say it again No-one can match our incredible volunteers! Thank you so much for your incredible and monumental effort! Today we removed over 3.5 tons of trash (427 trash bags!), over 2 tons of metal that has been recycled, 23 shopping carts, 14 tires (one a huge tractor tire), 2 bicycles, 2 lawnmowers, a portable black and white TV, a section of wrought iron fence, an elliptical machine, and more! Our motto is “Together can make a Difference” and thanks to our volunteers, we are! Today was our must successful cleanup EVER thank YOU!
April 20, 2013 – Bear Creek Park and Shoreline cleanup.
On April 20, 2013 over 130 Clean Bread and Cheese Creek volunteers cleaned Bear Creek Park and shoreline as well as the buffer area from the Bear Creek Swim Club to the playground! Volunteers removed over 4 tons of trash (567 trash bags!), over 2 tons of metal that will be recycled, 10 tires, 9 shopping carts, 9 bicycles, 7 plastic lawn chairs, 2 electric lawnmowers, an electric scooter, a huge rear projection TV, a 55 gallon drum, an engine head, an electric roof antenna, and more! Our motto is “Together can make a Difference” and thanks to our volunteers, we are! Today was an incredible first cleanup of Bear Creek and we look forward to continuing our effort to clean up and restore this historic creek! A land and water spur trail has been proposed for Bear Creek. It would connect with the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail near Battle Acre Park. The 19th century history of this area connects to the 1814 Battle of North Point, Defenders’ Day celebrations, and Joshua Barney.
May 18, 2013 – Stansbury Park and Pond Cleanup.
On May 18, 2013 despite the threat of rain, over 33 volunteers arrived to volunteer with Clean Bread and Cheese Creek at Stansbury Park / Pond and cleaned the shoreline trails, picnic area, sports field areas, and playground area! Volunteers Together we removed over 2 tons of trash (217 trash bags!), including a 23 golf balls, 19 fishing bobbins, 17 lures, miles of fishing line, a submerged couch, a box spring, a fully decorated artificial Christmas tree, a bicycle, sign post, carpet, and more! Despite the threat of or rain we made a huge impact on the health and beauty of this beautiful little park.
July 6, 2013 – Cleanup of Dundalk’s War of 1812 Monuments.
On July 6, 2013: What better way to spend part of your July 4th weekend than to honor those who gave their lives defending our country during the War of 1812, Our Countries Second War for Independence! We would like to send out a heartfelt thank you to all 20 Clean Bread and Cheese Creek Volunteers who arrived today despite the intense heat to clean up the War of 1812 monuments of Battle Acre, the Methodist Meeting House Monument and North Point Battlefield Park. Two pickup trucks full of overgrowth and several bags of trash were removed. Invasive crabgrass was removed from the sidewalk and brick work surrounding the monuments, vines and trees growing through the wrought iron fences were removed, stumps were dug up and mulch was put down around the Methodist Meeting House Monument. All the organic material was taken to the dump to be turned into free mulch for Baltimore County Residents. After removing all the overgrowth at the Methodist Meeting House Monument (across the street from Poor Boys – The Methodist meeting house was the headquarters for the British before the Battle of North Point and quickly became a field hospital for both sides after the battle began) we made an amazing discovery – A cement flagpole holder which is part of the monument and had been buried beneath the dirt and weeds so long none of our group had ever seen it before! Although we got a lot done, we still have more work to do at all of these monuments so watch for future events. Thank you again volunteers we couldn’t have done it without you!! No Veteran or Soldier who has given their lives defending our Country should ever be forgotten, no matter who long ago that sacrifice was made!
August 2, 2013 – Peninsula Expressway Cleanup.
9 AM – 2 PM (Meet at Anchor Bay Marina, Dundalk). Help us cleanup the Peninsula Expressway from Merritt Boulevard to the Bear Creek Bridge. We will be removing trash and debris from the roadway and banks to keep it from being washed into Bear Creek. For more information please.

September 21 2013.
Our wonderful volunteers cleaned from the Berkshire Section of Bread and Cheese Creek to North Point Boulevard including the section of North Point Road between North Point Plaza (Wal-Mart’s Shopping Center) and German Hill Road! Despite the threat of rain, over 100 volunteers arrived at Bread and Cheese Creek and did not finish until they cleaned over 3 miles of stream and a road! !! We have said it before and we will say it again No-one can match our incredible volunteers! Thank you so much for your incredible and monumental effort! Today we removed over 3 tons of trash (211 trash bags!), over 2 tons of metal that has been recycled, 7 shopping carts, 6 tires, 3 bicycles, 3 cans of paint, a washing machine, a crankshaft, a street sign (Delvale Avenue) and a car battery. October 13, 2012 – Berkshire Area, Bread & Cheese Creek.
On Saturday, October 13, 2012 over forty volunteers arrived on the crisp October morning to cleanup Stansbury Park which was organized by the ESCA (Eastfield Stanbrook Civic Association) and assisted by Clean Bread and Cheese Creek. Volunteers walked the shorelines, combed the beaches and searched through bushes to remove bottles, cans and fast food wastes a plenty. Golf balls and fishing equipment (bobbers, bait containers, lures and fishing line) were also removed in abundance. By the end the cleanup 35 trash bags of trash as well as two and a half shopping carts, a bicycle, a scooter and a construction cone had been removed from the park allowing its natural beauty to shine through again.
Clean Bread and Cheese Creek would like to thank ESCA for its continued effort to help keep Stansbury Park a place where everyone can come to enjoy the beauty of nature. We would also like to thank the ten volunteers from Clean Bread and Cheese Creek who gave up part of their Saturday morning to help with this worthwhile effort.
September 15, 2012 – Berkshire Area and tributary, Bread & Cheese Creek Clean-up.
Over 121 volunteers from Clean Bread and Cheese Creek cut up and removed 8 fallen trees blocking the flow of the stream, over a forty yard dumpsters worth of trash and debris (475 trash bags) as well over 2,000 pounds of metal, which included 6 shopping carts, 5 tires, 5 unused shotgun shells, 5 full cans of spray paint, 3 bicycles, 3 cell phones, 2 scooters, 2 TV sets, 2 tire rims, a recliner, a port hole, a car batteries, a lawnmower, a can of paint, a concrete donkey and much, much more! Your efforts have not only made a huge impact on the appearance of Historic Bread and Cheese Creek in the North Point Area we have also taken another step toward restoring the environmental health of the Back River Watershed and the Chesapeake Bay. None of this could have been accomplished without the hard work of all our volunteers and our generous supporters!
September 28 2102- National Public Lands Day.
In celebration of National Public Lands Day, 31 volunteers worked with Clean Bread and Cheese Creek to cleanup up North Point Battlefield State Park and Battle Acre Park. In total we removed 36 bags of trash, lots of metal and one tire! Both parks which commemorate our community’s role in the War of 1812 and honor the memory of those brave citizen soldiers who defended our country. Thank you volunteer for another incredible job!
April 21, 2012 В -В Stansbury Park Cleanup.
8 AM – 12 PM (Stansbury Park, Dundalk). The Eastfield Stanbrook Civic Association and Clean Bread and Cheese Creek participated in cleaning up Stansbury Park.
April 16 – 20, 2012 – Eastside Earth Week: Get into the Green Scene!
(Dundalk and Essex). We worked with other area environmental groups to plan a whole week of fun Green Events.
April 14, 2012 – Merritt Boulevard Area, Clean Bread and Cheese Creek Cleanup.

April 6, 2012 – Bake Sale Fundraiser for Clean Bread and Cheese Creek.

March 31, 2012 – Peninsula Expressway Cleanup.
8 AM – 12 PM (Met at Anchor Bay Marina). We helped the Friends of the Hard Yacht Cafe clean up the Peninsula Expressway from Merritt Blvd. to the Bear Creek Bridge.
November 20, 2011 – Bake Sale Fundraiser.
On Sunday, November 20, 2011, Clean Bread and Cheese Creek will hold it’s second Bake Sale Fundraiser. The first Bake Sale was such a huge success so stop by and say hello and pick yourself up a delicious treat! We will be at the Walmart in Northpoint (Northpoint Blvd., Dundalk) from 12 noon til 5pm (or til we sell out).

Clean Bread and Cheese Creek’s cleanup in the North Point section went extremely well. We can’t begin to thank all our wonderful volunteers and sponsors enough for all the hard word they did. Despite constant deluges Friday and the threat of more rain Saturday, 153 volunteers showed up early in the morning with smiles on their faces and ready to work! Together we cut up and removed 9 fallen trees blocking the stream, we filled one forty yard dumpster with trash and debris, one forty yard dumpster with metal (which included 33 shopping carts), 22 tires, 4 bicycles, 3 car batteries, 1 tiller, and a weathervane and much more! April 22, 2011 – Bake Sale Fundraiser.
On Friday, April 22, 2011, Clean Bread and Cheese Creek held its first official fundraising event. Since the organization is a volunteer based group, Michelle Barth, the Treasurer, thought it be a great idea to hold a Bake Sale to raise funds for future clean-up events. The Bake Sale was set up at the local Walmart in Dundalk. It was a hit and a lot of fun too. Please take a look at our photos from our first fundraiser. April 2, 2011 – Project Clean Stream.
On Saturday, April 2, 2011, Clean Bread and Cheese Creek participated for a second year in Project Clean Stream held by The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. We targeted the Berkshire area. We had a huge amount of support from Berkshire residents as well as followers of Bread and Cheese Creek, which we are so grateful for as there was plenty of work to be done in this area. Volunteers came out and really worked hard to to remove trash and debris from this neglected part of the creek. We hope our work here instills a sense of pride in the neighborhood as the creek looks so much better now. Please take a look at our photos from this successful clean-up.

40 volunteers from NorthBay Adventure School arrived to help clean the section of Bread and Cheese Creek behind the ARC building and along North Point Road where it travels over Bread and Cheese Creek. With their hard work we removed 1 ton of garbage and half a ton of metal from the stream which included 12 shopping carts, 15 tires, 3 bicycles, a bath tub, a swing set, a tractor trailer door and part of a tombstone. Despite the chilly fall weather and cold water, 107 volunteers turned out and removed an incredible amount of trash and debris from the creek! Giving up part of one’s weekend is a big sacrifice, and it is truly appreciated by Bread and Cheese Creek, Back River, and the Chesapeake Bay where all these waters empty.
What a wonderful day! Everyone worked hard, they put their backs into it and dug out 14 shopping carts, they used their personal vehicles to haul trash to the dumpsters, they pushed wheel barrows full of junk, they waded into the chilly waters and the entire time everyone laughed and smiled. Some people were only able to stay for a few hours, others arrived before 7 AM and left afterВ 4 PM, but everyone was wonderful help, andВ all help was appreciated.
The area targeted was between Merritt Boulevard and Plainfield Road. This was a ‘re-cleaning’ from when we first tackeld it in September of 2009. In the course of a year, plenty of trash had built back up in the area. Make sure to look at the photos from this event and see how great our achievement was for the day.
April 10, 2010 – Project Clean Stream.
Clean-up number 2 was a HUGE SUCCESS !! With 101 volunteers donating their enrgy and time, we removed a lot of stuff from the creek. Anyone can see the difference before and after the cleanup. Four thirty yard dumpsters were filled, two with trash, two with metal (mostly shopping carts) and huge stacks of natural debris that trap and collect the trash were all removed from the creek. The metal will be recycled and the natural debris will be turned into mulch. Some of the more noteworthy debris included 302 bags of trash, 22 shopping carts, 17 tires, 6 bicycles, 4 skateboards, 2 porcelain sinks, a bath tub, an industrial cable spool, a swing set, and a boogie board.

September 12, 2009 – 1st Clean-Up Event.
Our first Clean-up took place on Saturday, September 12, 2009. We had a great turn out and removed one heck of a lot of trash and debris from the creek! We all know giving up part of one’s weekend is a big sacrifice, and it is truly appreciated. It is appreciated by the residents along the section of Bread and Cheese Creek we cleaned, by Back River where the stream empties, and by the Chesapeake Bay were all these waters eventually flow.
Everyone worked hard, they put their backs into it and dug out shopping carts, they used their personal vehicles to haul trash from the shopping center area, they pushed wheel barrels full of junk, they waded into the chilly waters swelled by the previous day’s rain and the entire time everyone laughed and smiled. Some people were only able to stay for a few hours, others arrived before 7 AM and left after 5 PM, but everyone was wonderful help, and all help was appreciated.
Anyone can see the huge difference before and after the cleanup. Three forty yard dumpsters were filled, one with trash, one with wood / yard waste, and one with metal (mostly shopping carts). Some of the more noteworthy debris included thirty-four shopping carts, two motor cycles, six bicycles, a bath tub, a wooden exercise treadmill (when did they stop making wooden tread mills?), several bowling balls, an Oxy-Acetylene tank, an a Wii guitar.
