The Proclaimers’ iconic anthem 500 Miles now being used to advertise Viagra
THE Proclaimers rousing anthem I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) is now being used to give Viagra sales a lift.
Twins Craig and Charlie Reid’s classic hit has become a firm favourite with the Tartan Army and has been featured on the soundtracks for a string of Hollywood movies.
But this week a promo for the erectile dysfunction pills was released with a cover version of the band’s iconic foot-stomper.
The animated video follows the story of couple Tom and Jess to “see how things can fall apart – and be put back together again with the help of Viagra Connect”.
A source said: “It’s always been said that 500 miles is a rousing song – now it’s an arousing song too.”

Since its release in 1988, the track is regularly blasted out at Scotland footie and rugby games, has topped the charts with Peter Kay for Comic Relief in 2007 and even got Usain Bolt dancing at Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games in 2014.
It has also been used in Johnny Depp’s film Benny & Joon, Melissa McCarthy’s Identity Theft, James Corden’s Peter Rabbit and Anna Kendrick flick Pitch Perfect.
But before now the most bizarre place it had popped up was in Family Guy.
That’s when Peter Griffin joined the twins in the recording studio for a 2006 episode of Seth MacFarlane’s cult comedy cartoon — before thumping Charlie for singing off beat.
Craig actually wrote the iconic tune for missus Petra, the daughter of the late politician Margo MacDonald.
But now the 58-year-old brothers from Leith, Edinburgh, have joined Pele, who famously advertised Viagra pills.

The Brazilian football legend broke taboos by talking about erectile problems in the 2005 advert. However, it’s not believed the Scots twins need the pills as they have SEVEN kids between them.
The source added: “If it’s good enough for Pele to advertise – it’s good enough for Craig and Charlie.”
