pharmacy question
Can you buy antibiotics over the counter? Or do you need prescription?
amiller, Why not bring an inhaler from home and avoid any potenial hassle.
Asthma inhalers are sold at every pharmacy in Costa Rica. Very common. They run about $10. It may not be the same "brand" that he is used to, but it will work. Also, it might be the same "ingredient" with a different name. I use one that is called "Salbutamol" but has a different name in the US. Salbutamol is the most common.
No prescription needed.
If he brings one and needs another one while he is here, just take the empty inhaler to the pharmacy and they will give you the closest thing to it that they have.
I here you hattie but what I'm trying to say is that if you need an inhaler in an emergency and now you have to drive who knows where to a pharmacy and maybe only get something close to an inhaler your doctor has prescribed and a person is gasping for air you have serious medical problem on your hands. Its like a heart patient with no nitro spray having an attack and looking for a pharmacy. So to me a prudent person would bring medication to last however long the trip is and not take chances.
I think, mati55, that if someone has asthma, they bring their inhaler with them and are probably looking to see if it is possible to buy another one.
Unless you are staying in the middle of nowhere, it's not hard to get an inhaler. Every little town all over the place sells them. I live in a town of 3,000 and can buy one here. People with asthma know when their inhalers are about to run out and anyone with a grain of sense will buy a new one before that happens. In fact, when I travel to the US from Costa Rica — where it is IMPOSSIBLE to get an inhaler without a doctor's visit and prescription, I always bring two. And put them in different places in case one is lost.
Of course, this is an option for the OP. But I was just trying to give a feel for what it's like to buy an inhaler in Costa Rica, something I have done many times.
Basically, most rescue inhalers are similar and if you buy one that is not your normal "brand," it's not really a big deal. What you want is something that you can spray that will open your bronchial tubes and using a very specific brand is not really necessary.

No, roadadvisor, I buy inhalers regularly and you can get them at any pharmacy for around $10. It may not be the exact same thing that you have at home, but it works.
Now I know nothing about viagra so maybe you can answer that question for that gentleman? jajaja
