Les classes bilingues en Suède

Les premières classes bilingues sont apparues en Suède en 1995 lorsque les lycées Hvitfeldtska et Schillerska ont créé des sections de français avec non seulement le renforcement du français en tant que langue d´apprentissage, mais aussi la mise en place d´un cours d´histoire en langue française (kulturhistoria qui correspond davantage à un cours de civilisation francophone). L´école franco-suédoise Franska Skolan avait expérimenté des modules bilingues entre 1998 et 2000 avant de renoncer à cette démarche pour suivre en exclusivité le cursus classique des écoles suédoises. Les classes bilingues ont été réintroduites en 2009 (72 élèves concernés) grâce à des cours de philosophie enseignés partiellement en français. En 2010 et en 2011, plus de 500 élèves ont été affectés par des modules bilingues au collège et à la fin du primaire. Franska Skolan a des DNL évoluant d´une année sur l´autre (Médias, cuisine, sport, philosophie, histoire). D´autres cours sont apparus également au lycée Katedralskolan d´Uppsala qui a lancé une « classe française » avec un module d´histoire culturelle (Kulturhistoria). En 2012, environ 600 élèves font partie d´un cursus bilingue en Suède et l´Institut français de Suède coopère à la fois pour former des professeurs de français à ces modules et pour fidéliser les publics de ces cursus. Le DELF Prim (Diplôme d´Études de Langue Française adapté aux classes primaires) a été lancé en 2010 à la Franska Skolan de Stockholm (12 candidats) et le DELF Junior (niveau B2) devient l´objectif de la dernière année du lycée. Le niveau B2 du DELF est requis pour un élève voulant étudier dans une université française. D´autres projets sont proposés à ces établissements pour valoriser l´apprentissage en français à l´instar du concours de la francophonie en Suède où les élèves doivent mettre en scène un morceau de slam ou de rap autour des dix mots de la francophonie.

Les Olympiades de langues qui ont touché 7 000 élèves et 130 écoles en 2011 (espagnol, français et allemand) ont également inclus un module de questions pour les classes bilingues (appelé « questions de français langue maternelle »). Les Olympiades sont animées par les élèves et ont lieu entre décembre et avril ; les élèves préparent des quiz corrigés par les professeurs et les écoles entrent dans une compétition (tour de qualifications, quarts de finale et demi-finales régionales, finale nationale) pour pouvoir se qualifier pour le tour d´après (Premat, 2011, 34-35). Nous avons remarqué que les questions rassemblent déjà des éléments bilingues comme le montrent les questionnaires proposés avec la traduction en suédois des énoncés[1]. Les objectifs linguistiques visés par ces concours sont une certaine compétence grammaticale, une étendue lexicale et une connaissance de la culture et du monde francophone. Au-delà des quiz, les élèves peuvent se préparer en classe et travailler avec le professeur pour pouvoir avoir une chance de se qualifier pour la suite. Les classes bilingues français-suédois ont une approche spécifique en Suède, elles touchent une petite proportion des apprenants de français. En effet, 90% des publics d´apprenants sont débutants avec environ 2 000 élèves apprenant le français dans le primaire, 130 000 dans le secondaire et environ 2 000 étudiants (La langue française dans le monde, 2010, 154). On estime à 2 000 le nombre de professeurs de français en Suède (Premat, 2011).

Le bilinguisme est une manière de renforcer l´apprentissage du français à un âge précoce pour fidéliser des publics d´apprenants et les faire évoluer vers une maîtrise de la langue. L´objectif est d´avoir des utilisateurs indépendants de la langue à la fin du secondaire. Le français figure parmi les langues tierces enseignées en Suède aux côtés de l´espagnol et de l´allemand. Il est devenu possible d´affiner l´évaluation du nombre d´apprenants en fonction de ceux qui passent les épreuves nationales facultatives à la fin du collège et au lycée. Il existe en Suède sept niveaux suédois à partir desquels les élèves sont évalués dans leur apprentissage et il y a une proportion d´apprenants de niveau C1 passant les tests nationaux; elle correspond à ces publics des classes bilingues alors que les apprenants d´espagnol diminuent de manière très forte du niveau B1 à C1. On peut faire le même constat pour l´allemand alors que ces deux langues engrangent les meilleurs scores pour les effectifs d´apprenants au niveau A2. Il reste maintenant à évaluer la manière dont les publics bilingues gèrent leur apprentissage à partir des croisements entre les deux langues.
