Global Internet Governance Academic Network 3rd Annual Symposium Hyderabad, 02.12.2008
The Global Internet Governance Academic Network (GigaNet) is organizing its 3rd Annual Symposium in Hyderabad, on 2 December 2008, prior to the 2nd meeting of the IGF. The GigaNet Annual Symposium is an opportunity to showcase some of the best current research on Internet Governance from around the world and provides a venue for scholars to discuss and debate these crucial issues. Previous Symposia were held in Athens in 2006 and in Rio de Janeiro in 2007.
Deadline for proposals submission: 15 July 2008.

Council of Europe steps up international co-operation in the fight against cybercrime
Stepping up international co-operation to combat cybercrime will be the focus of a conference organised by the Council of Europe on 11 and 12 June in Strasbourg (France). The conference will bring together experts from all over the world and representatives of governments, police and the private sector (including Microsoft).

Digital Social Responsibility: Searching for Ethics on the Internet

This seminar will feature keynote speaker Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist.org and will bring together experts in search engine technology, online business, internet-enabled social networking, and internet privacy to discuss the ethical and social challenges in the for- and not-for-profit sectors triggered by the rapid diffusion of digital technology and the ubiquity of internet protocol. Topics of discussion will include:
- Future accessibility and democratization of the Internet
- The creation and support of a borderless, end-user-driven Internet, in Japan, the United States, China and elsewhere
- Transparency and accountability
- Striking the balance between protecting personal freedoms and squelching fraudulent online activity

Global Internet Governance Academic Network (GigaNet) Second Annual Symposium – Call for Proposals
Each year, GigaNet organizes a research symposium. The first was held October 2006 in Athens, Greece, a day prior to the inaugural meeting of the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF). The second GigaNet symposium also will be held on site prior to the 2nd IGF meeting, on November 11, 2007 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
