The number-one reason missionaries leave the field is that they are not exactly sure what God has called them to or they do not have clear instructions once they get there. In this post, we will look at what the Bible says about being called of God to a certain task.
Making your calling and election sure is very important. In fact, your whole missionary experience must be based on the knowledge that God called you to the work. Anything less than a sure call will open the door for failure.
“Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall.”
The key word in this verse is diligence . Being diligent means you will be thorough and persistent. Once you know what God has called you to do, your assurance will serve as a solid foundation of faith on which to build.
Jesus taught his disciples (and us) to pray for God’s will to be done “on earth as it is in heaven” (Mat 6:10). This means that we can pray for, and receive, God’s will in our lives.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him”
There are only three voices that can speak to you: God, the devil and human reasoning. If you think you are called to serve as a missionary, I suggest you spend time in prayer to hear from the Lord. Set aside your own thoughts and human wisdom by saying, “not my will but yours be done, Lord.” Then, in Jesus’ name, bind the voice of the enemy from speaking to you. Say like Samuel of old, “speak Lord, your servant is listening.” You may hear a word in your inner man, or you may get the name of a country or people group He is calling you to serve. It varies for each person, but I can say for sure that God’s word is true—if you ask for wisdom, He will give it. God wants you to know His will for your life! The Holy Spirit will direct your life as you pray.

This is so true. If I had not known what God’s call was on my life I would not keep going, especially when it gets tough. I have the experience of the Lords words to fall back on. Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God. This is where I bank my faith on… NOT on what I say or others say, but what HE has and does say. The more confident I become in Christ and HIS calling upon my life the more secure I am. Then when I speak I am convinced and it convinces others. People won’t support someone who comes across insecure in their purpose and calling. If I am convinced it is easy to convince others. Doors open when I place my confidence in what the Lord has spoken to me. People see the faith and get excited and want to be a part of what GOD is doing. KNOWING the CALL of GOD without a doubt will keep a person on course..
That is exactly right! I will deal with what you said in part b of this blog. You must know you are on GOD’S ERRAND when you are doing mission work. Or any kind of spiritual work.
