August 19: It’s a new milestone achieved in the sex lives of women- America’s Food and Drug Administration has approved the long overdue drug Addyi or flibanserin, also known as the ‘female viagra’. The drug can be used by women to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in pre menopausal women. The drug will be released by Sprouts Pharmaceuticals by October 2015. But what are the health implications of its use and can it really cure the dropped libidos of middle aged women? As it turns out, there are some pretty serious consequences of drug’s use on your health. Critics of the pill say that FDA has finally approved the drug because of pressure to release a medical treatment for low sex drives in women. 2. It’s not the same as male viagra

While the male viagra can fix the medical problems of erectile dysfunction, this one just makes women more horny by increasing the dopamine in the brain. So, while male viagra has been known to have effect on the user’s physiology and improve his performance, flibanserin can not be a sure shot way to boost a woman’s sex drive, since the problem is psychological. Some people even say that HDDS is an invented disease and that it can be fixed with a change in lifestyle.

The side effects of the pink pill include drowsiness, dizziness, and fainting, which increased the risk of injuries such as concussions. Extremely low blood pressure was another less common side effect. Also, these effects were seen in one in every five women who took the pill!
