Maria Curran, M.Ed., Ph.D., LPCS, founder and director of TCCH, is a licensed professional counselor supervisor (master’s level) and play/expressive arts therapist with over 21 years of counseling experience working with children and adults in a variety of settings including; private practice, residential facilities, schools, community agencies and partial hospitalization.

Maria holds a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences with a concentration in creativity, learning and human development and her research focused on Playback theatre and character education. Maria also holds a Master’s degree in counseling and a Bachelor’s degree in psychology.

She was a Teaching Artist with the N.C. Wolf Trap program for three years and her teaching and professional training experience includes serving as adjunct faculty for 3 1/2 years at CPCC in the Human Services Program and for four years in the Teacher Education program. Heather Fangman, MS Ed., LPCA, is a licensed professional counselor associate. She graduated in 1990 from Miami University with a BA in psychology and completed her masters degree in community counseling in 1996 at Youngstown State University. Heather has experience providing individual and group counseling services to children, adolescents, and adults, with a special interest in play therapy; issues related to attachment, abuse and difficult family relationships; and perinatal trauma. Her orientation is primarily cognitive behavioral and person centered. Heather’s background also includes several years in social work, foster care case management, academic coaching, and childbirth education and labor support.

Hilary H. Carr, MSW, LCSWA, is a licensed clinical social worker associate serving primarily with children, teens and their families. She graduated from the UNC Chapel Hill in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a certification in Women’s Studies. She returned to in 2005 to obtain a Master of Social Work degree, with a concentration in children and families. She has worked for ten+ years with, or on behalf of, children and their families. Her experience includes community agencies, women’s shelters, schools, in-home, inpatient and outpatient/private practice. Hilary incorporates a person-centered approach when working with all her clients. When working specifically with children (ages 4-10), Hilary utilizes child-centered play therapy. Hilary is currently working toward certification in play therapy at the UNC Charlotte.

Lila passed her therapy dog international test in 2012, and is a certified therapy dog. She may be a Golden Retriever/Australian Shephard mix and was adopted from the pound after being thrown from a moving car as a young puppy. She does a great job of making clients, especially children, feel welcome and comfortable at the center and has worked with children who have a fear of dogs. She is also an accomplished actress who gets to perform in numerous roles invented by our child clients.

Abigail is Lila’s intern and a therapy dog in training. She is a Collie mix born around 10/15/14. Her training is coming along nicely but she is challenged with “puppy brain” and becomes overly excited when meeting new people. You will often see her around the office and we welcome you to say hello as we teach her to be comfortable around people.
