I'm wanting to buy what are usually prescription drugs in my home country – nothing illicit, beauty products that are hellaciously expensive and unfunded.
I want to buy Lumigan (other names are Ganfort (Bimatoprost and Timolol) it's basically a generic version of Latisse which is used for to help eyelash and eyebrow growth.
The second thing I'd like to buy is Retin-A Pronunciation.
Generic Name: tretinoin topical.
Brand Names: Altinac, Atralin, Avita, Refissa, Renova, Retin-A, Tretinoin Emollient Topical, Tretin-X.
Currently using a similar product by my dermatologist but the $400+ price tag is a major ouch on the pocket book. would love to be able to buy a generic version while I'm abroad.
Can anyone give some insider's tips on what if any savings can be expected ? Can medicine's be bought OTC?

Rules what are OTC and prescription drugs vary from country to country. In Thailand antibiotics are commonly available OTC while prescription in many countries. In some countries decongestants with pseudoephedrine are OTC while in Thailand strictly prescription. You won't know until you ask.
If this is specifically about Patong I cannot recommend any place. I would not buy from small pharmacies with no air conditioning due to temperature issues during drug storage. Boots should be a reliable chain.
Hospital pharmacies are likely to stock a wide selection of drugs but they are unlikely to dispense without a prescription from the hospital and in my experience the prices are inflated (e.g. ibuprofen for twice the price in independent pharmacies).
Lots of air conditioned pharmacies in Patong. Or you can try Boots or Watsons in Jungceylon.
hey. you can get almost anything from the pharmacy so that wont be a problem. however there are plenty of docs and hospitals that will help. was rushed to hospital myself in patong so dont worry about that.
Many drugs can be bought over the counter in Thailand, some even on the street. Be careful though, some might not be the real thing, others might be manufactured in countries that have lower standards than what you would be used to in the west.
I recently had a 4 week holiday in Thailand and forgot all my medication. I was able to buy over the counter, no questions asked, bisoprolol fumarate, tamsulosin hydrochloride, ramipril, a statin and naproxen. every single one of these being prescription only in UK. Of course amoxicillin is sold otc like sweeties!
that's cool to know – I really don't want to pay the super high price here, and hoping, at the very least the exchange rate may help out?
Thanks for the replies.
Last question first certainly retin A is available OTC. I send it to my niece who has acne. $7 a tube. If you are American there is a 6 month supply limit to bring back and they WILL confiscate excess at your re entry point.. At $400 a month I would air express myself a bunch as well as hand carry some home. Haven't seen Lunesta but then I haven't been looking. My guess is it is available. I wouldn't worry too much about bad or fake RX. Thailand has a huge pharmaceutical manufacturing industry. In the 80s faced with an aids epidemic they reverse engineered aids drugs, set up manufacturing facilities that now produce virtually everything.

Hi – Very interested to hear if you found Retin A over the counter in pharmacies in Thailand when you visited?
Should I look for a particular brand or just generic "retin A"?
The Pharmacy with the best range is in Supercheap, Phuket Town (he main one.)
The Chalong Supercheap also has a small pharmacy now.

In fact counterfeit pharmaceuticals from Chgina and India are a huge problem in Thailand as they are across all of Southeast Asia. Only buy from reputable pharmacies or get your drugs prescribed and dispensed by a hospital.
Sorry to jump in on thread, is it easy to buy 600mg ibuprofen tablets over the counter, anyone know rough price per pack? Many thanks.
