Can You Take Viagra With High Blood Pressure?

With the exception of exercising caution in men with pre-existing conditions of the heart and blood vessels, Viagra is pretty safe to use under the advice of a medical practitioner.
Viagra should be taken at the recommended dose as needed approximately one hour before sexual activity. Based on the efficacy of the drug and your tolerability, you may be asked to increase or decrease the initial dose later on. If you have other medical conditions such as kidney function impairment or liver function impairment, the recommended dose will have to be adjusted accordingly. If Viagra is taken with food, the onset of action may be delayed compared to its use during the fasted state.
Does Viagra interact with other medicines?
Adult males who wish to take Viagra should be aware that it can interact with certain medicines, resulting in unwanted side effects. Most noted of these are simultaneous uses of Viagra and alpha-blocker medicines that dilate the blood vessels of the body, which can lead to an unwanted drop in blood pressure and effects such as dizziness and light-headedness as a result. Someone who is already taking medicines for various pre-existing health conditions should, therefore, seek proper medical advice before starting to use Viagra.
Can you take Viagra with high blood pressure?
Erectile dysfunction is often found in men with high blood pressure because of the hardening of the blood vessels in the penis and other associated risk factors. Sometimes, erectile dysfunction becomes the signalling factor to indicate that a person might have high blood pressure. Clinical studies on the use of Viagra to improve erectile dysfunction in these groups of patients have shown excellent response and safety profile.
Although Viagra causes small but clinically insignificant reductions in blood pressure in men with both normal and high blood pressure, clinical studies have shown that when used in accordance with the prescribing information and current treatment guidelines, Viagra is safe in younger and older men with or without hypertension.
Despite the fact that Viagra causes dilatation of blood vessels and a slight lowering of the blood pressure, clinical studies have shown that it does not exaggerate the blood pressure lowering effects of alcohol or medicines that are used to control high blood pressure. The decreases in blood pressures were found to be similar whether Viagra was taken alone or with commonly used medications for high blood pressure. Results of studies that have made such comparison have concluded that the acute, short-term effects of Viagra on blood pressure and heart rate in men with erectile dysfunction were small and not likely to be clinically significant in those taking medications for high blood pressure simultaneously. This suggested that there was no synergistic interaction between Viagra and medications for high blood pressure. Viagra can, therefore, be used by people who are taking medications to control their high blood pressure.
One study in which Viagra was used acutely in patients with high blood pressure that was not controlled by usual medications (resistant hypertension), an improvement in 24-hour blood pressure without significant side effects were observed – thus signifying a possible use of Viagra in the treatment of resistant hypertension in the future.
Many other beneficial effects of Viagra have been observed during clinical studies, and there is a possibility that Viagra might be used as a treatment not just for erectile dysfunction but for various other medical problems in the future.

It may be harmful to take excessive doses of Viagra at one’s own discretion, especially if one has pre-existing heart or vascular conditions.
