Ben Stiller’s Female Viagra Ad Airs on The Tonight Show After Being "Bumped" From Super Bowl 50 at the Last Minute
There was nary a Super Bowl commercial without a celebrity in it.
From Liam Neeson shilling LG Electronics to Steve Harvey getting laughs for T-Mobile, stars cashed in while promoting products during one of the most watched television events of the year. Ben Stiller also filmed a spot for the big game, but as the Zoolander 2 actor explained on NBC’s The Tonight Show Monday, “They just bumped it. They didn’t show it at the last minute.”
“That’s not fair,” host Jimmy Fallon said. “What was it for?”
“Female Viagra,” Stiller replied.
“Female Viagra?” Fallon asked. “I didn’t know they made commercials for that.”
“Yeah. I mean, you know, there’s all those ads for male Viagra out there, but people don’t realize there’s female Viagra,” Stiller said, maintain an air of mock seriousness. “I thought, you know, it would be great to get the word out, so I did this spot—more like a public service announcement. You know how they have those Viagra ads and they have the girl and she’s on the bed in the football jersey? So, you know, I was really excited about it, but for whatever reason there was like a mix-up and they sort of bumped it at the last minute. Still a little raw.”
Fallon said he “would love to see the commercial,” but Stiller said he “didn’t bring it.” Luckily, the producers at The Tonight Show received a copy and played it for everyone in the audience.
Cut to the commercial starring Stiller, who was holding a football and wearing a sports jersey in bed. “Watching football together is great. But I think most men would agree cuddling with their woman after the game is pretty damn magical,” the actor said in the previously never-aired commercial. “The thing is, even though zero women suffer from erectile dysfunction, over 98 percent of women over 30 suffer from another condition called ‘Not Being Turned on By Their Husband Anymore.’ Female Viagra helps women get in the mood and stay in the mood, and you only take it when you need it, like anniversaries, special occasions, or when your husband rolls over and says, ‘Wanna have sex?'”
Like all medications, Female Viagra came with a warning.
“Ask your doctor if you’re mentally prepared to see your husband without his shirt on. Side effects include dizziness, nausea, having sex with your husband, your husband saying, ‘Sorry, was that OK?,’ and if your husband is over 70, nightmares,” a voiceover said. “If sex with your husband lasts more than four minutes, God help you. Just fake it and pretend to go to sleep, or tell him you have a headache, which incidentally is another side effect of Female Viagra.”
